How We Calculate Stats

We use two parts: (1) a pre-database total for competitive goals scored before our tracked period (e.g. before 2021), and (2) match-by-match goals from our database from 2021 onward. Only competitive first-team matches (club and country) are included; we exclude friendlies where stated.

Exact pre-database totals can differ between sources. We state the offset we use (e.g. 756 for Ronaldo) on the Road to 1000 page. Our total is for informational use and is not an official record.

The “projected date” for reaching 1000 goals is based on: remaining goals (1000 minus current total) and a pace (goals per game × games per week). Default pace is set to approximate recent scoring (e.g. ~0.85 goals/game, ~1.1 games/week). On the Road to 1000 page you can change these sliders to get your own estimate.

Projections are illustrative only. Real outcomes depend on minutes, injuries, fixtures, and competition level.
